Discover Oil, Lube And Filter Services With Chicago Car Repair Shop

By Clayton Maske

There are many components that go into the running of an automobile. Oil is one. It serves the important purpose of eliminating friction between engine parts. As a professional Chicago Car Repair mechanic will tell you, it lubricates, cleans and cools the cars engine.

Each three-thousand miles that is put on the speedometer reminds you that an oil change is due. Additional checks of the engine and tires are often included in an oil change. But, ask the individual working on your car just what is included. You may want to add additional checks.

You do not ordinarily think of oil as being clean at any time. There is oily hair and oil slicks on the road that are not clean. The oil added to the car is fresh, however. Sometimes fragments of metal and dirt can get in with it over time. The stick, called the dip stick, is used to measure the oil and will show when it is dirty or sluggish.

The following checks may be considered a part of an oil change routine. If they are not, it is a good idea to request they be added as an extra service. There is one basic fact to remember about automobile maintenance. It is much cheaper to keep your car maintained than it is to pay for a major repair caused by neglect.

Ask to have the air filter checked too. Ask the mechanic to top off all the fluids. The undercarriage should be inspected for leaks. Worn out hoses and belts should be replaced with new ones.

A great many of the late model cars do not have fittings that need to be lubricated. They are sealed. However, ask if your car needs them lubricated. Just like the body of a person needs food and water to fuel it, the automobile needs gas, oil, transmission fluid and brake fluid to keep it running.
